Our democracy at the national level has been hijacked by big money. We need to make sure this doesn’t happen in our local system.
Two years ago in 2013, 88% of Salt Lake City voters said they want a Constitutional Amendment to ban unlimited corporate donations in politics, encouraging the reversal of the Citizens United decision. Luke is the only candidate who has adopted the voluntary spending limits suggested in Salt Lake City code, meaning that all other candidates are playing the big money game.
Luke is the only candidate who is doing something about it, limiting campaign contributions to $1,000 per individual or local business (the legal limit is $7,500 for mayor). If we want to get big money out of politics, we have to have candidates willing to forgo big money.
