Ravenstahl wins Democratic primary
Pittsburgh Business Times
Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl won Tuesday's Democratic primary, handily beating opponents Patrick Dowd and Carmen Robinson.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial results from the Allegheny County Division of Elections Web site showed Ravenstahl with 26,848 votes. Dowd had 12,592 votes, and Robinson had 5,916 votes.
There is no Republican challenger in the November general election. The Democratic primary in Pittsburgh usually predicts who will be elected mayor in the general election.
In City Council races, incumbent Theresa Kail-Smith won the nomination for District 2. Natalia Rudiak won the nomination in District 4, and Robert Lavelle upset incumbent Tonya Payne in District 6. Councilman Bill Peduto was unopposed in District 8.
There were three County Council primary races as well; incumbent Matt Drozd in District 1, and newcomers Dean Petrone in District 4 and Greg Neugebauer in District 8 were all unopposed.
