Thank you to QSaltLake for hosting tonight’s candidate forum. It was a discussion that covered many topics that are important to the LGBTQ community, as well as their may allies in Salt lake City. We discussed a variety of issues, encompassing public accommodations, LGBTQ equality requirements for city contractors, services for homeless LGBTQ youth and elders, choosing a new police chief and public safety.

Tonight I shared my belief that expanding public accommodations protections in SLC is the right thing to do, as is requiring city contractors to provide the same equality in benefits for same-sex couples. I also discussed my plan for expanding and dispersing homelessness services so that they can better serve our homeless population, including LGBTQ youth, and have less impact on the neighborhoods where they are present. I also want to improve public safety in SLC and create safer communities where police are present, and knowledgeable about the neighborhoods they serve. All of these changes, along with a more open and inclusive city hall, will provide for a better city for all of our residents, including the members of our LGBTQ community.
